FAQ's!

How do i join band?
Request the class through your counselor and contact the band director so that he has your information. Email Mr. Lopez at [email protected]
Can I participate in sports or other activities while in band?
Yes, majority of the students in band are also in sports and other school activities. If you choose to commit to multiple activities, you must be willing to put in the time and effort for both activities. You will be expected to have good communication with the director so that he can help you manage both commitments.
Is there an audition to join?
If you are a woodwind, brass student, or percussion student auditions are not required. Incoming freshmen can choose to audition into the higher-level band. All other freshmen are automatically placed into our Concert Band.
Students interested in joining our Auxillary team (flag, dance, rifle) are required to pass an audition in order to join. Auditions are held in the spring.
can i do just marching band?
No. Band is a co-curricular class at Barron Collier High School. All students in the BCHS Band Program must be enrolled in a band/auxilarry class during the school day to be eligible for membership in the BCHS Marching Cougars. Students who wish to be part of the Marching Cougars must be enrolled in a band/auxillary class.
What performance opportunities are available?
The Marching Cougars perform at all home football games and most away football games. We also compete at regional competitions each year and perform at local community holiday parties.
All of our ensembles perform at FBA District Music Assessments every year: District Marching Band MPA, District Jazz Band MPA (for jazz band), District Solo & Ensemble MPA (select band students), District Auxillary MPA (auxillary students), and District Concert Band MPA (all concert bands).
The Marching Cougars also provide its students with in state travel opportunities. Every other year we travel and perform at Disney World or Universal Studios.
Are there any commitments after the fall semester?
Yes, joining band/auxiliary is a year long class. In the fall semester we focus on marching band. When marching band season is over our bands focus on concert band and auxiliary focuses on Solos & Ensembles.
We have two concert bands that our students are placed in: Wind Ensemble and Concert Band.
Our Auxiliary Team is split into three ensembles: JV Guard, Varsity Guard, and Competitive Dance.
Is band difficult?
Band is not easy. It will take hard work, dedication, and a lot of effort. In the long run, our students have fun because they find success and they build friendships that last a lifetime.
